Philosophy

I believe that the relationship is at the heart of psychotherapy and that the relationship between therapist and client is the foundation for the therapeutic work.  It is my experience that change occurs within the context of a collaborative and supportive relationship. I believe that we all have the innate ability to grow and change, and that therapy can be a valuable tool along the way.

Experience

My career has taken me in several valuable directions; first as a social worker and therapist in Illinois’ Early Intervention system where I worked with parents of children ages birth through three, and then as a social worker and therapist working in psychiatry at a medical center in Chicago.  Prior to opening my practice I worked as a psychotherapist in a medical group where I provided psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a wide range of challenges.  My combined experiences have led me to develop an interest in working with individuals during pregnancy, postpartum, and in the transition to parenthood, as well as those experiencing challenges in their journey to becoming parents.

Education and Training

I hold a certification in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International which has provided me with extensive training in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mental health issues, including postpartum therapy for depression and anxiety.

I am also a certified “Bringing Baby Home” educator through the Gottman Institute. I have completed training through the Association for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) on women’s health and reproduction and completed a certificate program in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I obtained my Master’s Degree from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a specialization in mental health.
